[REVIEW] A hidden gem by the harbour - Jang Won Korean BBQ Restaurant in Johor Bahru!

Firstly, Do not be deceived by Google Maps! Learning it the hard way, I innocently believe the cabbie who told me that it's walking distance to where I wanted to go - Jang Won Korean BBQ Restaurant on Jalan Ibrahim Sultan. /slaps self/ So we trial and error, walked over to the dead end because there was so many constructions going on. Gave up after much consideration, we hailed for a cab which slashed us RM12 for the short journey claiming that he's been in a queue for half an hour already. Alright. Too tired to bargain.

On a personal note, I HATE it when JB cabbies slash tourists like this. Sorry uncle, I'm a Malaysian too just that I can't speak Malay. Oh, sorry I forgot you only thought of the money. It's just my thing to tip taxi drivers a little more. Which I did as I would, at least two ringgit on top of the metered price despite it being significantly lesser than the quoted price if the driver were to quote me. But I appreciate his honesty a lot, A LOT. May all the kind and honest cabbies get more passengers than those black ones.

Anyway back to our Korean BBQ feast!!!
I'll start off with some shots of the menu, I reminded myself to take photo of the menu because I was so frustrated that I couldn't find much on the internet.

Set Meal A (2pax) & B (4pax)
Set C (5pax) & Set D for (6pax)

Foreword: Click to enlarge the photos to view! Somehow looks blurry on the blogger view!

Just the two of us, we ordered the set meal for two costing RM75. The set comes with the all-time favorite steamed egg, a mini pot of kimchi jjigae, a serving of rice, a serving of pork belly and marinated pork ribs. We were rather relieved to find a set meal for two because most of the review online were for 4 people and above. But well! If there really wasn't, we would have ordered ala carte meat dishes actually! Heh!

Cutesy Steam Egg which will deflat when it's cooled down.
Kimchi Jjigae with rice
Kimchi Jeon

In addition, we got ourselves the kimchi jeon (pancake) which was a bad choice. I'd totally try the seafood and green onion pancake on my next visit. The kimchi jjigae was acceptable with generous serving of kimchi, tofu and glass noodles. But I'd pretty much like to try their deonjen jjigae next time!

Total damage for Set A for 2 pax (RM75) + Kimchi jeon (RM25) = RM106 in total.

The heavenly pork belly on the grill!!!!!!! (screams)

You can see the generous number of side dishes in the photos! Some are really good and some are simply so-so. What I find good: mushrooms, white raddish, kimchi (best). You'll be served a jug of brown beverage which I suppose is a kind of tea but taste like nothing but plain water.

As you may have read, enjoy your get-together time with the friendly staff helping you with the grilling and cutting! Like a princess, I was telling MS. I LOVE THE PORK BELLY SO MUCH I NEED TO GO BACK FOR MORE /throws heart/ On the other hand I find the marinated pork ribs (too engross & forgotten to take photo..Opps!) so-so, thicker slice, jucier and softer but I'd prefer the meat with the original taste like the pork belly. Yumz. Maybe just get double serving of pork belly next time?  I find the meat reasonably priced as ala carte!

Help yourself to the free icecream cone!
2 stamps for our RM106 bill!
There's a loyalty programme going on with a chop given for every RM50 spent, accumulate and redeem dishes with the card. And yes, as you know the free ice cream cone after payment! It was chocolate chips when we visited, wished it was strawberry though... /slightly upset/

I hope the snaps of the menu helps you a little in making the decision to visit Jung Won Korean BBQ Restaurant! I personally like the ambiance and service very much! We sat in the air-con room by the way! Maybe we'll  try outdoor next time.
